About

Hi, I'm Anna.

I've spent the last eight years helping people make sense of the things they've been carrying — in their relationships, in their bodies, and in the stories they inherited without choosing.

Anna Sherman, Registered Psychotherapist

Why this work

I didn't come to this work because I had it all figured out. I came to it because I was fascinated, early on, by the quiet ways people carry what their families handed them — and by how much relief was possible when someone finally slowed down enough to name it.

That's still what I care about. Most of the people who walk into my room aren't in crisis. They're capable, often high-functioning, and tired of carrying something alone. My job is to make the room quiet enough that we can hear the actual thing.

How I trained

I completed my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy at Touro University in 2014, and registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario in 2018. Since then, I've kept going — deliberately, in specific directions.

For couples, I trained in the Gottman Method (2016) and completed Emotionally Focused Therapy Core Skills with ICEFT (2020). Most couples therapists train in one. I use both because one gives us structure and the other gives us depth — and most couples need both.

For trauma, I trained in EMDR and Internal Family Systems. These are the approaches I reach for when talk therapy alone isn't reaching something — especially with patterns that got handed down rather than chosen.

In 2019 I became a certified Maternal Mental Health Practitioner through Postpartum Support International. PSI is the leading certifying body for clinicians who work with pregnancy, infertility, postpartum, and the early years of motherhood. It changed how I practice.

What you can expect from me

I'm warm. I'm direct. I'm not going to nod silently for 50 minutes. I'll ask real questions, and I'll tell you what I'm noticing — gently, but honestly. If something isn't working between us, I want to know about it. Therapy works best when both people in the room are telling the truth.

I work in both English and I see clients in person in Toronto and online across Ontario. I see individuals, couples, and families, and I keep a few slots each week specifically for new and expecting mothers.

Outside the room

I'm the author of The Empowered Woman's Journal, a guided therapeutic journal for women trying to live a little more intentionally. I also supervise therapists in training, which keeps me accountable to my own field in a way I find important.

If any of this sounds like the kind of person you'd want to talk to — the free consult is the easiest place to start.
